(Aquarius - Core) Corsis

Corsis (I) was discovered shortly after UTN Deep-Space probes arrived in the nearby Corona system after the survey in 2339 A.D. Corsis is a small, low temperature dwarf star that is believed to be relatively young, in contrast with the Red Giant that it shares its sector with. Due to its proximity, within a single gate jump, to the prosperous Core System of Corona, the somewhat uninteresting sector had received major development by the middle of the 3rd millennium; major mining and mineral extraction conglomerates operating out of Corona used Corsis as a staging system for refineries and the civic infrastructure required to sustain them.

The system has a single, small, rocky world that lacks any significant atmosphere. The planet was host to corporate refineries during the height of the Old Federal Era. By the Imperial Era, the planet was once again used to refine minerals out of Corona, with the latest development by the ATIS Industry Sector in 4410 A,D, being a new facility constructed to handle raw Polarytic Crystals extracted from Coron's crust. Corsis's 'dead-end' location on the end of a single Jump Lane made it ideal for housing the somewhat volatile Polarytic refineries away from the bulk of the civilian traffic in the Core System trade lanes.

|| DESCRIPTION:

Corsis-A is a small, low-mass silicate, rocky planet of similar size and mass to the ancient Sol-system planet of Mercury. The world is relatively uninteresting; lacking any major deposits of exotic elements required by the Old Federation or the newer states such as ATIS. However, its isolated location and close proximity of its parent star to the major, resource-rich Core System of Corona has made this world a desirable location to construct resource handling facilities servicing shipping from Corona. Corsis-A's low gravity also makes it cheaper to land heavy spacecraft on the surface, without the need for extensive orbital lift facilities, making it ideal as a refinery world, before refined elements, such as Polarytic Crystals, are shipped off to other systems.

The first human activity on the surface of the world occurred in 2347 A,D, shortly after the colonisation of the nearby Corona System. The Old Federation had refineries operating planet-side by about 2350 A,D, solidifying hte world as a major contributor to the growing Terran economy very early in the Old Federal Era.

In the Imperial Era, Corsis-A remains true to this purpose, with the ATIS Industrial Sector operating major resource handling and refinery infrastructure on its surface and in orbit. The Corsis-A sub-system is protected by a single Task Force from the Imperial Navy's Sector Defence contingent, consisting of at least one Fleet Cruiser.
